In my view i think linux will become dominant on the desktop, but it will take
time if you look at a typical windows user, they are hooked, because its simple
to use, it has drivers and interoperability, plus other things (despite the
viruses)
some of these things linux has gained ground, the OS has morphed from a geek OS
to what we know it today, however they are challenges,
the argument of linux being better than windows, does not hold any water in
real life, your Mum (or wife) might cook better than McDonalds, but no one will
ever buy more food from her, you have to analyze your competition,
we need to highlight what Microsoft is doing is well, and learn from them,
however painful that decision might be
(instead of just proclaiming that linux is better, so what if its better, no
one really cares)
one of the unpopular things i propose for LUG ( if its to migrate from being a
paper tiger ), is to provide free migration/support to all government agencies
on the linux platform (and other OSS software products).
We can enlist the services of many students from MUK, MUST, UMU, GULU (apart
from Musa Body University) who are in desperate need of industrial training
Some might argue that this is crazy, but the boomerang effect it will have is
enormous, government is the largest employer. If you do the math, you will find
that this idea is not as crazy as it sounds
and the real beneficiaries of this exercise will be the OSS companies, because
government will need them after they are hooked,
