Kiggs ------------------------------------------------ The Uganda Linux User Group Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) The Uganda Linux User Group (LUG) mailing list provides information and facilitates discussion of subjects pertinent to Linux and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) in particular but also in general about Information Technology topics. The LUG list is a community based and driven list managed by a list administrator. The administrator may change the subscriber requirements of the LUG list at any time. The LUG Administrator may cancel a subscription if the individual or his/her organization no longer meets the list's posted subscription requirements. LUG LIST GUIDELINES 1. Discussion will focus on the stated purpose of the list. 2. List participants acknowledge that mailing list posts are publicly available on LUG mailing list, archived on the mail-archive.com website, may be used in materials related to LUG's process, procedures, operations, and are subject to legal rules of discovery. 3. Role accounts may be subscribed to the mailing list, as long as the e-mail account does not generate auto-reply messages, such as ticketing messages. 4. Auto-reply messages, such as out-of-office messages, are prohibited from any e-mail account subscribed to the list. 5. List administration messages, such as unsubscribe requests, must not be sent to the list. Instructions on how to submit mailing-list related requests are detailed here http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug 6. Statements of a political or philosophical nature are discouraged. 7. Any mailing list posts held for moderation or posts from those who have had mailing list privileges revoked, may not submit posts under any other email address or alias. 8. Discussion regarding actions that the LUG admin has taken to warn or remove AUP violating list participants should be directed to [email protected]. LUG SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES The following activities are specifically prohibited on the LUG mailing list: 1. Statements that include foul language, personal character attacks, or show disrespect for other participants. 2. Statements that are slanderous or libelous, including making accusations of criminal conduct in the absence of an indictment or conviction. 3. Product marketing, business development, or business lead purposes. 4. Use or distribution of others' comments or e-mail addresses for any purpose other than to discuss relevant issues pertaining to approved topics. 5. Posts which interfere with the customary communications on the list. 6. Postings by fictional or non-identifiable names and addresses with the intention to deceive. 7. Posting false or fictitious statements with the intension to deceive. 8. Using or extracting subscribers’ email addresses, organizational information, or any other mailing list attributes, for derivative mailing lists of any form. 9. Actions, that while not described specifically here, are similar to the conduct described. LUG REPORTING VIOLATIONS AND ENFORCEMENT The LUG administrator(s) reserves the right to maintain order and decorum on the mailing list, to include imposing disciplinary actions on individual mailing list subscribers. At the LUG administrator’s own discretion after issuing the offender a written warning, he/she may take any one or more of the following actions in response to a reported violation or his own determination that a violation has occurred; 1. Filter/remove the offender's message(s); and/or 2. Immediately revoke the offender's posting privileges to the LUG mailing list; and/or 3. Revoke posting privileges for a specified time period or permanently. 3. The LUG Administrator will provide and answer/solution/action to a user complaint as soon as possible but in a period not exceeding 96 hours 3.
