Hi,

yesterday evening we moved to the last iteration of www.ugandawatch2011.org

We really appreciated the feedback we got on several mailinglists and tried to
incorporate some changes that should please people based on this feedback:

- Our biggest change is that we now show on the map, not just where we get
reports from, but also what type of reports are coming from different
locations. So, on the homepage you can see that in the east, the amount of
violence reports is relatively high, and in the North, there are more worries
about Money & Process issues. You can click the images to see a breakdown of
each region.

- We introduced colors for this, other than purple.

- We slashed the size of the initial load of the page by almost 1MB to little
over 800k. This includes all graphics, javascript and the map tiles. Please
note, that the page itself is only about 22k, so subsequent pages you visit
will only have to download this 22k + additional maptiles if the page contains
a map.

- We introduced the first Ugandan targetted Content Delivery Network or CDN!
We are very very proud that we now serve most static content from either the
UK *or* from Uganda, depending on where the nameserver is that you are using.
This process is completely transparent to the user, and should make acccessing
the site much quicker. This is the first site Mountbatten is running using the
CDN, but more will follow.

Hope you enjoy the new site, and that we all have a safe and fair elections
tomorrow.

You can follow Ugandawatch on facebook

If members are interested, we would not mind presenting about some of the
trickery that went behind this on a future LUG event.
