Hello LUG,

I'm currently out testing the options our telcos are offering

Bought a UTL card which right after activation, wouldn't work.
I asked for the usual APN, number to dial as I use the network manager
or wvdial as a backup.
I had the usual, "You don't need the settings, they will come
automatically when you double click"
AND
". . . are you sure that the modem is compatible with your OS?"
the minute the lady realised that I was using Linux.

After I asked that they simply insert the simcard into one of their own
dongles and windows machines,
test it, there was still no dice.

After almost 24hours including 5 or so hours of me sitting at the
counter while trouble shooting,
the resident tech found that the password I had chosen,
had not been recorded in the system.

Now the card works fine in a UTL dongle on both their windows systems
and my Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.

Problem is, I'm still getting the original failure from network manager
and "exit code 16, a modem hang up the phone" from wvdial
when using the simcard in my own "Un-locked modems"
and a "Sim card registration failed" when I insert it in my phone.

Speeds seemed good while I had a UTL dongle working on my system in the
shop, would be a shame for this
subsription to go to waste, any ideas or suggestions guys,
and *none* that include buying a UTL dongle?
