In my case, I loved Dreamweaver+Photoshop (Win/Mac) from day 1.
I then tried doing the same/similar tricks in Linux (openSuSE) with
first the equivalents: Kompozer (wasn't that happy) & Quanta (seemed
to work better but still had some catch up to do). Then I realized
that in all honesty, none of the equivalents could deliver as the
Adobe babies (man hour comparison). May be Gimp is some what muscled
up.

Then came the Idea of Wine & Crossover. Both didn't give me a good go
with the then "latest" Adobe suites (that I guess was CS3).
Visualization chewed my then weak machine & had to abandon all hacks
in that direction.

My recommendations:
1. Dual boot if you can & keep the latest Adobe Suites close.
2. Invest in a Mac (got one -- allows me run Adobe Suites for rapid
Web development & graphics design & I have a Unix environment)
3. If you're a patient guy & there is no need to rush -- Go Quanta + Gimp.
