On my android,

Facebook contacts are only available while you are online. One you go
offline, you can't access them, which is a bit of an annoyance.

Actually it has only probably recently appeared on my phone because i did
not have it before, thats why i was shocked. However i think i know what
you are saying but i think this is different its like when your gmail
contacts sync to your phone book its not exactly the same if thats what you
are saying, this is a like a whole folder by itself its essentially
offline, however when you click on the user it shows you there number, you
cannot switch it on or off, you click on it to say get phone contacts so you
can essentially call it your second phone book if and when needed.

It links to your native dialer if you want to make a call if the user
already exists it gives you different options including a landline if you
have them already in your profile.

Is this the same thing you are talking about?

LOLOL its been built in for a minute. THe phone should also link the
facebook contact to existing contacts in the phone. So for example when i
look for your name in my DroidX is shows your email, FB, tel all together

Eventually most people turn it off since it becomes more a nuisance. And
some phones allow you to only link FB contacts that already existing in your
phone. This is good since you dont want evry skank u added as a fb friend
showing up in your contacts list and making it cluttered.
