This maintenance has been going on since last week according to the SMS's I
have received. If anything they need to block other traffic and allow SMTP. Or
just change the QOS to allow email out along with everything.

All a bit fishy to me.

I've been in touch with datanet, because we have a mail server on their
network. They say its maintainance. And indeed we have a lot of mail that's
just being held in the queue.

Daniel.

Subject: [LUG] Upstream SMTP on BSC

Hi,

It seems one of the upstream providers is blocking port 25 for the last 24
hours.

If you use TEAMS over a BSC link (parts of Roke and Datanet do) then you
probably will see that the folling statement will time out:

telnet alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25

If you are running an SMTP server, no email has been going out for about 24
hours.

It seems to be some very smart person very far away from Uganda that thought
this was a good idea and didnt tell anyone.

You can read this email, because our SMTP server(s) and the LUG SMTP server
are both hosted in Uganda, so under normal circumstances, we are all not
affected by these connectivity challenges.
