Hi LUG?
Information is new, as long as you never knew about it, that's why this comes
after the event was completed. The mapping day was held at Uganda Christian
University in Mukono on 10th September 2011 where we registered 20 participants
(http://mappingucu.eventbrite.com/?ref=ebtn), and we introduced them to open
source tools and resources, including those used in mapping and mapping skills.
They updated U.C.U Mukono on the Open Street World Map, and the results are
visible here:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=0.35501&lon=32.74088&zoom=17&layers=M, they
will be updating more features themselves, as they contact us in-case they need
assistance.
They liked the event and wanted us to visit them again, so when the time comes,
i will inform the LUG earlier. On that day, we were also joined by a team of 3
British students doing their research on mapping in the Ugunja community in
Kenya (http://www.ugunja.wordpress.com)
The British students were contacted and brought in by Reinier who also
facilitated and let us take control in organising and running the event, which
turned out to be a success, some few photos are available here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/douglo2011//show, others will be sent by the
research team coz they took some and are following our activities on the
mapping day site: http://www.mappingday.com
My first LUG Meeting i attended was at Jet Cafe (Namuwongo) in July 2011. Kyle
and Spencer clearly told us to inform the LUG whenever we had events to
organise, among other rules, and i "felt guilty, and would still be guilty" if
i had not informed the LUG. - Better late than Never.
I can't leave without appreciating the revamped LUG site, and apologising
in-case this post has not been liked by any member on the list.
Yours Truly
