Hi all,

I'm writing to announce Techfest Uganda 2011 and invite everyone on this
list to attend (sign-up is required).  Here's the details:

Techfest Uganda 2011 will be held on Friday, November 18th and Saturday,
November 19th 2011 at Orange Expo (UMA Showgrounds) in Kampala, Uganda.
Our objective is to showcase some of the country’s most innovative
technology initiatives, galvanize the community, and empower people.  We
aim to help people and organizations learn how to benefit from locally
available skills, services, and products.  Expect engaging presentations,
trade-show talks, group activities, panel discussions, hands on
demonstrations, and themes ranging from agriculture to robotics.

There are three (3) content tracks you can sign up for:
1. Business, Art, and Entertainment (Friday, November 18th – 08:30 to 12:30)
2. Agriculture, Health, and Education (Friday, November 18th – 13:30 to
17:30)
3. Government, Journalism, and Security (Saturday, November 19th – 08:30 to
17:30)

Track 1: Business, Art, and Entertainment
This track will cover topics such as business models, business
intelligence, mobile technology, open-source software, content licensing,
and mapping.  It will be chaired by Simon Kaheru, Director of Business
Convergence at SMS Media and Lead Analyst at Media Analyst.  Speakers
include Kim Nooij (Fruits of Thought), Evelyn Namara (Solar Sisters), Sean
Krepp (Grameen Foundation), and Agatha Gikunda (Nokia).

Track 2: Agriculture, Health, and Education
This track will be of interest to agriculturalists, educators, and health
professionals who want to learn more about how locally available
technology, services, and skills can benefit their organizations and
industries.  This track will be chaired by Makerere University's Michael
Niyitegeka.  Speakers include Pau Varela (eMOCHA), Prof. Deidre Carabine
(Virtual University Uganda), Luke Kyohere (Grameen Foundation), Brian
Ssennoga (International Health Sciences University and COSS.ug), Robert
Orenstein (S7 Project), and Eunice Gnay Namirembe (Text to Change).

Track 3: Government, Journalism, and Security
This track will feature highly educational talks about digital and
non-digital security, the impact of technology on journalism, and recent
government ICT initiatives.  This track will be chaired by Gregory Branch,
award-winning CNN string-reporter and Global Post correspondent.  Speakers
include Hackers for Charity founder Johnny Long, Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb,
Filtre News founder and managing editor Richard Kikonyogo, activist blogger
Rosebell Kagumire, and the Uganda Ministry of ICT's Dr. David Turahi.
