Subject: [mil-oss] U.S. Department of Defense Removes Open Source
Software Roadblocks (AppDev STIG)
To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]>

As I mentioned earlier, the DoD has removed major roadblocks in using
open source software from DISA's "Application Security & Development
Security Technical Implementation Guide" (AppDev STIG). This effort
was actually kicked off during the first MIL-OSS meeting in Georgia.
In one of those hallway meetings that are sometimes more important
than the talks inside, a developer told me about the serious problems
they were having because of the STIG. A number of us have worked
together to get that fixed (I wrote the change proposal, Aaron Lippold
helped me work through DISA's processes, Dan Risacher made this a
priority for DISA, and I'm sure there were others involved too). The
good news is that it's finally fixed.
