Grace,

"Assume there's a corner store in your neighbourhood that rents movies. But
the movie industry believes that some or even all of the videos in that
store are unauthorized copies, so that they're not being paid when people
watch their movies. What should be done?

SOPA/PIPA do not aim at the people trying to get to the store, or even the
store itself. The solution under the proposed bills is to make it as
difficult as possible to find or interact with the store:

1. Maps showing the location of the store must be changed to hide it.
2. The road to the store must be blocked off so that it is difficult to
physically get to there.
3. Directory services must delist the store's phone number and address.
4. Credit card companies would have to cease providing services to the
store.
5. Local newspapers would no longer be allowed to place ads for the
video store.
6. To make sure it all happens, any person or organization who doesn't
do this is subject to penalties. Even publishing a newsletter that tells
people where the store is would be prohibited by this legislation.

Maybe you should read the article again,

And there is no correlation between Wordpress taking part in the protest and
his blog post, where he mentions the risk of having his domain name
deregistered

I think you are mixing apples and oranges

I repeat, there is no manpower (or womanpower) to enforce this bill, on a
large scale

They are likely to target the big fish, why deregister the lug site which
has virtually no visitors

I choose to sit on the fence, for reasons best know to only me

Am not interested in the links you are providing, but thank you for the
gesture

Its obvious, that when new bills are introduced, some people go into over
drive, and claim armageddon,

I will not join any band wagon, at least not in the near future, some people
who have not read the bill, are now becoming experts

They are similar to listeners who call in to a radio talk show, and want to
participate without knowing the debate subject

Fool hardy? Hardly. His blog's service provider, WordPress, took
part in the black-out protest for exactly the reason he describes.

If you are still on the fence or want to become better educated on the
issue, I encourage you to listen to this NPR radio broadcast from
yesterday afternoon:
http://podcastdownload.npr.org/anon.npr-podcasts/podcast/330/510053/14541761
3/WBUR_145417613.mp3

It accurately (and fairly) covers the issues surrounding SOPA/PIPA and
includes a lengthy debate/discussion between callers, the founder of
Reddit, a legal Fellow at the Open Technology Initiative, and the
Executive Director of the Copyright Alliance & Former Vice President
of Time Warner.
