Personally, I would probably hire a data entry clerk - since a volume is not the issue here. - and pay them by the number of records input. Seriously, the barcode scanner saves typing at most 10 letters - about 2-3 seconds. (all other data must still be typed in). That is less than the time it takes me to lift my hand from the keyboard, grab the scanner, position till it scans, drop the scanner and reposition fingers back on keyboard.
