Paul at what age did you start grooming your kids to become super geeks? I am beginning to worry for them. :-)

Growing up, we could never dream of having such opportunities. But I think if
you want a kid to truly learn what computers are about, this sort of thing is
just what's needed. Any kid can learn to swipe (on an iPad) so really that
teaches nothing. For the technically-minded kid.

I would. I did, actually. Well, not the ARM processor, since they were
not really around when I was a child, but I disassembled and
reassembled stuff before I started attending school. Don't
underestimate children; they are probably more suited for low-level
stuff than adults are.

I wish my country would distribute the Pi to
schoolchildren... They have started distributing tablets,
but that won't teach them any low-level stuff. Oh well, half
a loaf is better than none at all...

Low-level stuff?
Sometimes I think low-level stuff is for those who are wired a certain way.
Imagine Apple/Google/Asus or whoever's tablets vs the raspberry Pi even today's
higher level school students would grab at the tablets with both hands. I mean
which kid is thinking of the ARM processor?
