Stephen,

I use "localhost" and a Non-root user with all permissions. I know these
are fine because I have a local wordpress blog and it connects fine, with
the same credentials.
All my php scripts also do without a hiccup. I read that "10061" is a
winsock error(something to do with windows and socket connections) but
that's as far as I know.
The good folks at Mysql say it's not a bug, so that's also ruled out. I
have a strong feeling it's a either a Rails or windows issue. Am going to
attempt to connect through a raw ruby script served by apache and see how
that pans out. Thanks for the response. I think am going to figure it right.
