Hmm Interesting I see UTL's pricing has become 80,000 for 256kbps on 3G seems
we have more accurate pricing that the website ;-)

Jake,

It might be woefully out of date but I think that is also the point. ;-)

We could just tell the ISP that the comparison is up online and it is up to
them to “compete favourably”
Quick question though, UTL 3g at $430 per month for 256kbps? REALLY?

Excellent initivative! Do you think we could get some co-operation from the
ISPs themselves? They would want to show off their best offers, right?

P.S. I added different sheets for different services, I think it's impossible
to compare a 3G service to a fibre one, so I have broken them down into
Fibre/Wimax/DSL, Mobile and Satellite.

Well I have been chatting about this long enough so I threw together a quick
spreadsheet to compare our ISP's in Uganda.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuehlknXcb_0dFZGVzJZTWxxcXVIdlMzb2Zrc05aZEE

I think most of the links are self explanatory would be interested to see if we
can crowd-source this together.

I have stuck in what I know and our brief conversations on this list have
reveled.

iirc, installation + 1 month payment + equipment cost about UGX
2,000,000

(Equipment sans router of course - we whipped up zentyal on an
old box that was lying around, doing a perfect job)

It's at my wife's small graphics business in town, I know she
pays about UGX 550,000 monthly.

yep - initial fee does not seem to be that far-off then (assuming
that includes first 1 month service fee)
