Hi,
you normally dont install downloads in ubuntu, you install using the package
manager, or from the commandline
apt-get install pidgin
(for example, if you want to install pidgin)
If you must install a download, the site where you got the download from will
have installation instructions. Read those, and then come back here to ask
specific questions, or ask around on the site where you got the download from)
