Thanks guys for the response. Well, I do run ubuntu but not on my mac. I have a separate machine for that :-)
I also recognise that this is a Linux forum but Linux people are known to be some of the most helpful and friendly people as a result of their collaborative working ethics. I was hoping to solicit the help of the community to help with my problem. What if I use my mac to collaborate on open source projects which in turn bode well for the open source community? It is therefore advantageous therefore to assist where one can and not just because one uses Linux as his primary OS? Well, I have had the Mac for 3 years and its one of the last editions to support the new Mac OS upgrade. I doubt after this update it will support future versions of the OS. If I did buy it in Africa then surely I would be able to afford the fiber straight to my house and wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. I got it as a gift a long time ago, I didn't buy it out of my own pocket. Luckily I have managed to solicit an old friend in Kenya who has agreed to help me download it and bring it for me on his way to Ug. Was hoping to avoid this route as I do have my concerns (integrity of the media, especially since I can't find the OS image hash to compare it with). Thanks for your suggestions. Even though my problem is (sorta*) solved, it would be nice to still hear suggestions if anyone has any. Becomes particularly useful for guys who may install Linux (or any other OS for that matter) afresh and have dozens of updates to conduct after installation.
