One idea would be a hackathon. Set some goals, for instance creating a
driver for a certain piece of hardware or modding a software package to
some certain end, and reserve a set amount of time to nothing but hacking
away at code. A bit like a miniature concentrated Google Summer of Code,
but without Google. And without the summer, I guess, since, well, Uganda.

This is of course much more fun when physically together, but a virtual
event would work too.
