Dear All,

Over the grim-soccer weekend for most of Africa, there was another African
gathering - a 20 person meeting of African enthusiasts for FOSS.

Elected a month ago via an online vote, the FOSSFA Council met in Accra to
elect from amongst them, the new FOSSFA Executive. In my soon-to-expire
capacity as the Uganda Country Liaison, please receive this quick update.

New FOSSFA Executive:
*FOSSFA Chair*: Judy OKITE - Kenya,
*FOSSA Secretary*: Brian SSENNOGA - Uganda
*FOSSFA Treasurer*: Neatness Msemo - Tanzania
*FOSSFA CTO*: Seun OJEDEJI - Nigeria

Associate Members to the Executive:
*John MATOGO* - Kenya, for Chair
*Marion MPANGA* - Uganda, for Secretary
*Mark CLARKE* - South Africa, for Treasury
*Edgar TELESPHORY* - Tanzania, for CTO

>From within the Council were also made the following unanimous *Program
Areas Committee Chairs:
a) Business & Innovations - Dele Ajisomo, from Nigeria
b) Networking & Capacity Building - Katim Toure from The Gambia
c) Education - Joris Komen from Namibia
d) Legal and IP - Nnenna Nwakamna from Ivory Coast
e) Localization & Diversity - Solomon Gizaw, from Ethiopia/Ireland
f) Open Policy & Data - Dorothy Gordon, from Ghana
g) IDLELO 6 Chair - Joe Sevilla from Kenya*

It is my hope that as the Ugandan community of FOSS users and champions, we
will work with this team, as well as grow our presence in the FOSSFA
Membership and Program Area ranks.

FOSSFA does have alot of work to do, and from a Ugandan perspective, i
believe i speak for most of us when i say we would like to see more of:
a) Membership Value proposition - why the average Ugandan should become a
FOSSFA Member
b) Involvement in local and National events - its time for the LUG to
consider electing a new country liaison for Uganda, to FOSSFA.
c) More communications on what's happening and what we should look out for,
for Uganda as well as across Africa.

Anything to look out for?
1. IDLELO 6 will be in Nairobi, March 2014 - see IDLELO
Site<http://idlelo.net>for past conferences. Theme? Open Mobility -
New Spaces for Innovation (to
be confirmed soon).
2. ict@innovation Project is now in Self Governance mode, Volunteers
needed, and for details on where you can volunteer, please visit this wiki
page<https://www.ict-innovation.fossfa.net/wiki/public-wiki/how-sustain-ictinnovation-communities>.

3. The FOSSFA Community Empowerment Manager has just released a brief on
what his experience has been with managing a community of online users,
something i strongly believe this LUG needs.
