Oh, I think they do. It's just that they don't really care that much. The problem here is basically no peer-reviewing of code, because of the closed (well, technically shared) source model. A significantly large piece of the world has by sheer ignorance bought themselves into a Microsoft monopoly. A couple of zero-days won't change that, at least not overnight. To Microsoft, therefore, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Of course, if people would vote with their wallets and shy away from a company which products constantly fail to provide even basic security, the world would be better off... But people, as a rule, are short-sighted lazy ignorant twits. So they won't.
