This story came about because Microsoft is in the top 5 *corporate* contributors to the Linux *kernel between versions 2.6.36 and 3.2*. Most of their contribution is to making the Hyper-V kernel driver work - because that helps them. It allows Linux to run as a guest OS in Windows Server. This grand "contribution to opensource" consists of *688* changes/commits over 2 years. This totals just over *1.0%* of the total contributions for said kernel versions, behind Redhat, IBM, Novell, and Intel. Oh, and most of these commits are by one Microsoft employee. Microsoft does contribute to other OSS projects, such as Samba, but don't buy the marketing/headline-generating spin. Carry on. P.
