Hi Kyle,
I use Raspberry Pi, there performance is fair , Keep in mind these are meant as educational tools only, however saying that like the BBC Micro they are versatile and robust. I would advise if you want raw power the PI is not for you, it about the best mini board for its cost no issues their. Will see if we can get Ubuntu on it but can't believe given your requirements with the GUI that it will be very fast. It is very acceptable as a media player. I've got some Hackberries but the performance seems to be weaker than anticipated. Also, it requires a bit of technical trickery to get OS images to boot. I'm looking for a board with Ethernet, 2 or more USB ports, HDMI output, microphone input, and decent processor/RAM specs. They need to be able to run a front-end GUI (e.g. Gnome/XFCE) with good performance and play videos at decent frame-rates. They also need to be as low power as possible as the final solution will use solar. Has anyone here worked with these kinds of boards before and do you have any recommendations? The cheaper, the better, of course :) Regards, Kyle Spencer _______________________________________________ The Uganda Linux User Group: http://linux.or.ug Send messages to this mailing list by addressing e-mails to: LUG@linux.or.ug Mailing list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/lug@linux.or.ug/ Mailing list settings: http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug To unsubscribe: http://kym.net/mailman/options/lug The Uganda LUG mailing list is generously hosted by INFOCOM: http://www.infocom.co.ug/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
