Well,
There is a whole slew of patents they own for one.
They also have bash on Windows 10, C# and SQL Server VNext are also now
running on Linux as well as the dot net core framework.
Microsoft has come round to seeing Linux as the most used server OS and as
such the defacto enterprise business battleground.
Something of interest though is the (seemingly retaliatory) joining of
Google to the open source dot net foundation which after the inclusion of
windows to Google cloud server oses might also see dot net applications or
code welcome there as well. I hope Amazon is watching that move. I can
almost see android apps written with better xarmarin or from macbooks off
of the soon to be launched visual studio for macos.
That summarises the current moves in the industry AFAIK.
By the way,  codeschool.com will be completely free tomorrow and Saturday
for those who enjoy gamified learning of fun stuff like git, ruby on rails,
SQL, javascript and python.
