Sorry for the delayed reply. I think the name you are looking for is an SMS
Gateway. It interfaces the SMSC (SMS Center) and client applications. A
free and wonderful example of an SMS Gateway is Kannel. It is very easy to
configure and has a wide range of functions like blacklisting and request
handling. Like Chris said, an SMS Gateway can be used for both MO and MT
messages. You are provided with a URL to the smsbox through which messages
are delivered to the end user. You are also provided a URL for messages
that are MO and you choose how to handle these messages basing on a
keyword. Hope this helps.
