As expected, Google only sponsored 10 Nmap students. But sending them
14 was worth a try anyway :). I believe that everyone has now been
notified, so I am pleased to announce and congratulate the winners:

Christopher Gibson will be bringing us new and exciting
reinterpretation of Netcat and a packet crafter similar to but better
for Nmap user than hping, nemesis, or scapy

Ole Mortem Grodas is going to design and implement a whole new Nmap
GUI and results viewer in C++/Qt. I'm looking forward to using it!

Doug Hoyte will be dramatically improving the version detection
database and adding cool new features. He has already sent in some
patches!

Bo Jiang will be a Windows Czar, helping bring parity in features and
performance to that platform. He may work on an automated build
system which does everything from checking out the source code from
svn to compiling and processing it all into various shiny little
packages (installer, zip file, etc).

Zhao Lei has demonstrated many great ideas for bringing us the next
generation of OS detection. This will mean many new tests, and a new
database. One interesting challenges will be introducing the new
system without crippling OS detection as the new system is developed.

Adriano Monteiro Marques is also doing a new Nmap GUI and results
viewer. This one will be in Python, and he has already started work.
One of the great values of open source software is choice, so there is
plenty of room for two new GUIs. Heck, there are already at least
half a dozen. But those are mostly abandoned and I expect these new
ones to be much better!

Ronak Sutaria is another Windows Czar, perhaps focusing on bringing
feature parity to windows and creating a new installer with NSIS.

Paul Tarjan has a very diverse set of skills and will be taking a
broad role as overall code architect and researcher.

Alok Tangoankar will be using his strong background in language design
and implementation to add an Nmap Attack Scripting Language to Nmap.

Bharath Venkatramani is the final (alphabetical by last name) Windows
Czar. He may focus on performance.

Congratulations to these talented students and to everyone else who
applied and sent in great ideas. This is just a "rough draft"
announcement so that you guys get an early peek at which projects and
individuals were sponsored. We'll probably send a more polished
announcement to the broader Nmap community next week.

With that, I am now closing down this list. It has served its purpose
well, and was used even more than I expected. There have been 216
messages since it was created earlier this month. Wow!

Enjoy your Weekend,
Fyodor
