if i remember right, the build scripts for the debian package for lustre (the last time i looked and suggested to the packager) it depends on certain compiler versions and versions of packages which dont exist in debian sarge, its probably not a good idea to just grab binary packages and install them onto a sarge install. it will most likely fail to work. if you want to play with the debian package for lustre with fairly minimum fuss its probably best to install etch or even sid to try it out.
