I apologize if this topic has been exhausted in the past, but I have a question
about grain orientation in lute bracing. It seems counterintuitive to have the
brace grain running parallel to the top. I know the usual argument is that it’s
always been done that way, so there must be a reason for it, and we have to
keep doing it that way, but has anyone made a lute with the grain running
perpendicular to the top, as in a guitar? If so, how did it affect the tone of
the lute? Thanks in advance for any information.
