This may come as a surprise to some, but the fact remains that there is
much more renaissance or Baroque lute music being played and recorded by
guitarists than by lutenists. Some eventually switch over to the lute and
become LUTBAGs (Lutenist Used To Be A Guitarist), and some do not.

Another phenomenon easily observable is the one of many important lutenists
trying their hand in guitar performance, on "period" guitars. I am
anxiously waiting to hear John Schneiderman's performance of Russian guitar
music on the Russian 7-string guitar....

Way to go!
