Speaking of Dowland's conversion, I read that Sloane quote at one time, although it's been a while and I would like to see it again, but I am still very skeptical. It could have been hearsay or something else peculiar lost in the expanse of time. I just don't understand why the greatest lutenist in the world would change a technique that was working for him.
