Dear all

Don't forget! The next meeting of the Lute Society takes place this Saturday
17th January, at the Art Workers Guild, 6 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London
WC1. Nearest tubes: Russell Square, Holborn.

The first meeting of the New Year will be a ‘semi-themed’ meeting on the
subject of instrument building, with sessions on the vihuela and on the cittern.
We hope to have on sale another new facsimile, of the Welde manuscript, and
the new CD ROM of the complete works on the seven Spanish vihuela composers in
facsimile - supposedly arriving by DHL from Spain today [Monday 12th]. We
welcome back Joachim Held for a recital of music from the Schele lute manuscript.

There is one late change: Jeni Melia, who was going to sing songs from her
new CD has a sore throat, so Kenneth Be [who was to have played in April] has
kindly stepped in and will perform lute solos from the Braye MS.

Here is the timetable:

11.00 Coffee

11.30 Forum on vihuela building, to mark the publication of a CD ROM of
all seven 16th century vihuela prints in facsimile. (At the time of going to
press, two luthiers have already offered short presentations—contributions
from the floor will be welcome.)

12.30 Mini recital, Gordon Ferries plays baroque guitar music, as heard on
his recent CD.

1.00 Break for lunch

2.00 LATE CHANGE: Mini-recital, Kenneth Be plays music from the Braye lute
book.

2.30 Wood and wire, a talk on cittern building, by Peter Forrester

3.30 Tea

4.00 The Lute Society Recital: Joachim Held plays renaissance lute music
from the Schele manuscript, with works by Joachim van den Hove, J.B. Besard,
John Dowland, G. Kapsberger, Paulo d’Aragona and others.

Hope to see you there!
