Tom,
I tune my Ren instruments at 440 too. It seems most people tune their
Baroque lutes low. This is as I suspected. I would also suspect that
most people tune their Ren lutes at about 440.

The question popped into my mind because I'm doing a couple of
concerts in a few weeks on Ren lute with violin and gamba. We are
going to play some original stuff too and I thought of a piece that
would work well in Dm on my Baroque lute but I didn't think the other
guys would be too keen on playing in C# minor! I'm still trying to
think of a solution. I'm just flat out afraid to tune all the strings
up a semi-tone on the B lute. That problem didn't phase the gambist
in the slightest, he just immediately cranked those babies up to 440
when he found out that's where we play.
Cheers,
