Hello Im an ex-classical guitarist (Hartt College of Music/U.S. 1974) who
recently completed recordings of 2, 3, 4, and 5-part classical guitar
renditions of Renaissance and Early Music (pre-Renaissance). Ive made the
renditions available via free ..MP3 performances (both listening and free
downloads) on a personal web site:
http://www.jsayles.com/familypages/earlymusic.htm
Working for IBM, and not one iota interested in quitting my day-job, I
originally did this project for the purpose of getting some really wonderful
and totally obscure literature out into the world (these were among my
favorite ensemble pieces at Hartt). But, as an afterthought, I wondered if
you; your associates or students might be interested in listening to, or
getting the arrangements for your college guitar ensemble(s). Theyre at
least worth a listen (IMHO).
The pieces are as obscure as they are wonderful. They are all well suited
to college-level sight-reading and technical ability. They run from the
simple to relatively complex, and from tunes that would [most likely] sound
best with one guitar/per part - to others that would sound really nice with
many guitars/part. Because of their musical period, the songs have fabulous
rhythm and counter-point.
My personal favorites are:
English pieces:
 Browning
 Ricercare
 Witches' Dance
German pieces:
 Ich weiss nit
 Der Hund
 Von Edler Art
Spanish pieces:
 Ignacio
 Recercada
French pieces:
 Allon gay gay bergeres
Italian pieces:
 Saltarello
 O Rosetta
However, it's a bit difficult to choose - because all 24 tunes are really
special musical gems, by composers who are not played enough. The .MP3
files range between 1 and 3 megs each - so hopefully you have DSL or
cable-modem.

In terms of getting the arrangements for these - Susan Iadone, who arranged
the parts that I play on the .MP3s on the site, has the part music, and will
be making them available sometime in early 2004. If you have interest in
getting the written arrangements, send a note back to me at this eMail
address.
