Dear Garry:
64 cm is on the extreme end of G tuning, but it can be made to work; F# is
probably more comfortable, if all you're playing is solos.

Subject: Possible tunings?

Greetings to all!
If my lute has a string length ( from nut to bridge ) of 64 cm, what
possible tunings can I use?
I'm discounting tension for the moment. Is G tuning feasible?
I'm asking because the basses are kind of muddy sounding in E tuning. I've
been experimenting and so far I'm up to F#. Nothing has popped, the tuning
pegs didn't offer excessive resistance, and the basses sound better.
Thoughts, anyone?
Happy Friday!
Garry
