dear charles -

ever willing to tout prospective customers with the virtues of nylgut
strings, i'm happy to oblige.

i play an oud - so i don't know if this applies to your instrument -
but i've had experience with the following manufacturers:

la bella
thomastik-infeld
d'addario
ghs

these comparisons must be considered as subjective but la bella, ghs
and d'addario are pretty much of a muchness, imho and thomastik-infeld
took so long to respond to my initial email that i gave up. i also
understand they don't accept credit card purchases over the internet.

this is so much water under the bridge, however as good fortune has
placed me in the very capable hands of mimmo peruffo of aquilla strings
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> from where i hope never to roam.

i've had no experience with gut but the nylon, synthetic gut strings he
produces (nylgut) are very much superior to the synthetic strings i
tried from the aforementioned companies - briefly, because they produce
a more balanced sound; there's no noticeable shift in tone when passing
from the treble to the bass, metal wound strings. they also seem to
last much longer than the other strings and feel better to the touch
(more substance, density) than the others.

i should say that i don't have anything to gain by recommending aquilla
products - i'm not an investor or anything like that. to me they're
simply better.

sincerely - bill
