Both of these views have their own merits. I personally agree with David,
as I am an all gut player, at the moment (I have flip flopped many times,
but now, gut is my choice). But, Leonard has had his successes with nylgut.

Nylgut can be most useful, especially in the hot humid months of
summer. But, nothing can beat the sound, feel, and musicality of gut. The
"deadness" referred to is real. But, it comes down to what is most
important to the musician. Good...... no, great sound vs.
practicality. Gut is the winner, hands down, for sound, where nylgut "may
be" more stable & less fussy.

For the player who wants, above all else, fantastic sound, gut is the best
option. However, there are many of us who do not want to be bothered with
tuning, preparation, changing frayed strings, etc.

For the past few years, I have not had any difficulty with gut staying in
tune, as I have in the past.

Both views have merit, as said. There is a time & place for each type of
string, and preference is the deciding factor.
