Yes, it was very astonishing.  I find it fascinating what the astronomers 
of the time could do - Tycho, Kepler, et al..  For those on the list 
feeling that this topic is not of interest to the lute, remember that 
Galileo's brother Michalangelo was a lutenist, as was their father, Vincenzo.
