Was it Noel Coward? One of those lads of his day had a song "Get yourself a Geisha, the flower of Asia". I advocate a lovely lady with a Japanese fan (and a tireless arm). I've tried attaching stiff paper to my cat's tail, but she isn't to happy with the idea.
But Leonard has a point, the little "muffin" fans used for computer cooling (internal) are very quiet. The only problem is that they work on 12V DC. But I'd give a bet that a good Radio Shack techie would have fun showing you how to "take it off" your internal power supply. Forget the Comp USA, or Computer City, or any other tech places - they charge $100 to say hello.
