Richard and Howard - thank you for the copious amount
of information you have dug up for this debate. I am
glad I asked the question.
What it essentially boils down to is this. In a
4-note chord pattern, Kapsberger did not use his
ring-finger, as he himself seems to point out.
So, if the chord is this, he would divide the notes as
follows:
--------------------
--------------------
----0-----0---------
----3--------3------
----3--------3------
----2--------2------
And finger them with the right hand in this manner:
T-{TIM}.
Now, if we break these down into an arpeggio pattern,
would he finger them differently? In other words,
which of these two patterns do you think makes most
sense and is closer to Kapsberger's intention?
----------|----------
----------|----------
-0--------|--0-------
-------3--|--------3-
---3------|----3-----
-----2----|------2---
~T~I~M~T or T~I~M~I~?
The first one reflects Kapsberger's suggestion as to
the performance of the chord. The second may make
more sense "logically."
