Dear Bill, Stephan, and All:
 I also have found a very stiff plectrum -- a blunt 1.5 mm "Plec" brand
plectrum -- more to my liking than an oud plectrum both on the five-course
medieval lute and the five-course gittern. This has nothing to do with
historical evidence. It just produces the sound I want: less "slappy," less
plectrum noise, more sustain and less front-end "chiff."
