right - got the wrong year.
I've spoken to some elder men years ago. They usually were very
refraining regarding the time in question. But one day I had to honour a
member of a club (then aged approc. 90) who told me: "Everybody was in
the SA - they offered what we young guys wanted: music, parties,
camping. And we didn't care about the politics". So maybe 3 million
members is even too low ...
