There is a grain of truth, though. Arciliuti may be approached as
Italian baroque lutes, 11c lutes as French baroque lutes, and 13c
swan-necks as late German baroque lutes.

On the other hand, e. g. mandolines (from Naples or Milane or else) may
belong to the lute family, but their music is not baroque lute music.
Their idiom is different.
