so, according to your encylopedia of instruments, it's
tuning that distinguishes one instrument from another,
not its number of courses - right?

in this discussion, as with the vihuela as charango
topic i  posted earlier, no one has mentioned a
distinction in how these instruments are made - none
of the luthiers i contacted privately mentioned
construction.  the difference seems to be superficial.

is that correct?
