This was a simple joke that was appropriate for the thread at the time and one which clearly had nothing to do with the current situation in Iraq. Was it in particularly bad taste? It was merely a pun on a quote made by Saddam before the decision was made to remove him from office. If we wait until the time is right, this thread will have moved on!
I am well aware of the recent execution of American hostages and that Brits too are being held by rebels in Iraq. Many civilians are being indiscriminately killed for the same cause. I also know families that have loved ones serving in Iraq. Here in the UK, I work with Kurdish-Iraqi asylum-seekers. I am perhaps better placed to have made that response. There are several inappropriate things I could have said in reply to the original posting. I used my discretion, chose only a few words and it did raise a smile. The British are famous for their sense of humour, particularly during adversity.
