I am forwarding this report (with permission) from a concert this last weekend
by Ronn McFarlane in the San Francisco Bay Area, during a weekend-long seminar
with Ronn here. You can hear some examples of the music from his web page,

Lute friends,

On Sunday night Ronn McFarlane treated us to some of
his original compositions for lute. I've never heard
anything like it and it was AWESOME! Some of the
compositions were in the fashion of the Masters and
then there were completely modern themes, evoking
towering peaks and Big Sky country, and haunting
glades. I've never seen or heard the sort of
finger-picking he used in the "Indigo Road" number. It
was electrifying--no guitar could give you the same
sound, with strong-weak pulses coming through from
the flurry like that. Thanks so much to Ronn for
sharing this with us! It is proof that we play and
love a living instrument that will continue to move in
new directions. I look forward to a CD of these new
works!

Thanks also, Mike for organizing things and Dan and
Rachel for hosting Ronn. I also enjoyed our own local
luters' performances last night. Thanks again to Mike,
Eric, Dan and Alex for the beautiful playing. Next
time I hope to be ready to join you!

It was all in all an inspiring night.

--Nancy
