Dear Wayne I found the starting pages of Giesbert's tutor very usefull. If you shouldn't have it I think I could send you some pages as a fax or publish some exercices on my page.
I am also starting to play simple d-major or -minor chords jumping with my thumb from the ///a to the d on the 5th course. This helps the thumb getting used to the distance.
