There is more enlightment on the aforementioned daguerrotype:
In the middle of the 19th century there was a mainly Ukrainan
expedition researching the life and habits of the Lapps in the
very north of Finland. Amongst them was one, who carried a strange
instrument with him. The Lapps called the instrumet "torpaani".
That man had certain success amongst the young maidens. The
daguerrotype was taken about 30 years later of one man, of whom they
said that the man has no father. The man was called strangely by
name "Sautsekki".
