Bill,
Since nylgut is still nylon, I wouldn't think it would absorb any of 
the lanolin.  The plastic is going to be pretty impermeable.  You would 
get a thin layer of lanolin on the outside of the string, but that 
wouldn't be enough to change the density noticeably.  It would be 
different with a gut string, which is to some degree porous and can be 
loaded with substances to increase the density and make it sound 
different.

In the winter especially, I've been putting Eucerin Aquaphor on my 
fingertips before practicing.  I get cracked skin on my thumbs and 
index fingertips from the dry air, and the Aquaphor helps that and lets 
me get a cleaner release than the rough skin would give me.  That alone 
will change the quality of the sound.  Plus, since I have gut strings, 
I'm guessing that it keeps the strings lubricated on the neck and in 
the area of the plucking.
