okay, so, this is about acoustic vs. visional perception (not about
staff vs. tab notation)! From my experience, I must agree that I can
recognize intervals, and harmony, from staff just as well as from
listening.

you'll have to be skilled, don't you. Keyboard staff actually is
keyboard tablature. There are German prints of keyboard music, with
their title page reading In Italiänischer Tabulatur (in Italian
tablature), that contain music in double systems of descant and bass
clefs. Most keyboard players are used to reading their tablatures.
Octavated treble clef is something very special which may quite common
among guitarists (I'm one of them) but otherwise is not.

Why don't we just keep thing at where they are today. Happily I'm
belonging to a staff of people who are making an edition of an up to now
undiscovered baroque lute book, and we're considering a co-edition in
guitar-score.
