Yes, I think it's best to stay with what Gianconcelli wrote. There are no T's
in Chilesotti's transcription for lute-guitar. Respighi inserts the
Tasteggiata on page 40 of G's tablature book.(1650). It's nearly continuous, so
the break is not very easy to hear.

You're from the Bay Area, I recall. Lots of the pictures in the Ansel Adams
exhibition were places I am certain we both have visited. My mother lived for
a while in Bodega Bay, and one shot showed the cliffs where her house sat above
the ocean. And I remember going ice skating at the Sutro Baths which were near
the Cliff House. He took lots of pictures there.

Have fun with Gionconcelli, Arthur.

I tried that. It sounds all wrong. The repeats sound right to me, it all
sounds right to me as written, but I was just wondering. BTW, this is lovely
music.

Did you know that Gianconcelli's Bergamasca with

a Tasteggiata is used in Respighi's Second Suite

of Ancient Airs and Dances? It's a strong piece, in

my opinion. Respighi repeats the bergamasca variations

and inserts the tasteggiata between the two. But Paul

correctly uses it as a prelude.

Yes I did. I'll have to listen to it again. I know there was an inserted
section in the Bergamasca but I can't remember it. Is it really the
Tasteggiata? Now that I've been working on the Tasteggiata from the same suite,
I'll enjoy listening for it.

Paul who? Oh Odette! :-) Yeah, he plays all the T signs as upper mordants in
the Bergamasca as I remember. I expect he knows what he's doing. I've gotten
used to playing the trills starting on the beat now, although when I first
looked at it I felt strongly that the ones that were approached from above
should incorporate an appogiattura. Some of them I do play that way when the
muse strikes me. I've got to listen to that CD again now. On second thought,
I'd better not. It can be a bit discouraging. :-)
