My ENT was talking about a "vibro-scalpel" (sounds like something out of a Larry Niven sci fi novel) that he uses for throat surgery. It is apparently a scalpel that vibrates at several thousand cycles per second and makes cutting tissue much cleaner and easier than the regular scalpel or a laser. It also reduces the healing time by half compared to a laser because there is no cauterization of tissue. His patients also experienced less pain during the healing time as well.
